The fashion challenges tall women face are unique to those over 5’ 7” tall. Tall women often find it difficult to find pants or jeans that are long enough, long sleeves that reach their wrists, and belts that ride at the natural waistline. Even slacks and denim in ‘Tall’ or ‘Long’ lengths often have only a 32” or 33” inseam, leaving them looking outgrown, unintentionally cropped, and just plain unattractive.
Only a tall woman will ever get stuck wearing capris that bind right at the knee, Bermudas that fit like short-shorts, or loose low-rise pants pulled down as far as they will go.
Many tall women buy blouses and tailored shirts one or two sizes too large simply to get the sleeve length by allowing the shoulders to hang down. This detracts from the fit and style, often making the entire outfit unsightly, baggy and shapeless.
Clothing is one area where short women definitely have the advantage. Pants, skirts and dresses can almost always be shortened. Hemming is easy to do, and many petite women save money by shortening their own slacks, jeans and skirts. If one chooses professional alterations, it is generally not expensive. Long sleeves are quite easy to find in petite lengths and, if not, they can always be cuffed or rolled.
