In a surprise move, 4J Studios has released a previously unannounced Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition texture pack. The developer announced on Dec 11 that the Fantasy Texture Pack is now available for download via Xbox Live. The release of the new DLC caught many off guard as the new texture pack was developed in silence and news of its existence wasn’t revealed until the add-on became available on Wednesday.

The new texture pack for the console version of Minecraft changes the base textures and user interface of the popular block building game so that the title’s visuals are wrapped up in a custom theme that makes the game look as if it had a medieval fantasy setting.

The Fantasy Texture Pack adds new castle-inspired stone textures, torches that look like wax candles, and armored creepers to 4J Studios’ hit release. Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition is now available as a digital download from Xbox Live Arcade. The title is also available in stores thanks to a physical retail disc release that launched earlier this year. The surprise new texture pack is now ready to download.
