From Thursday, July 7- July 21, 2011, “The Family Feud” will be filming their new upcoming season at the Atlanta Civic Center located at 395 Piedmont, Ave. Atlanta, GA. The new season airs in September and you are in for a treat, so check your local listings! I won’t spoil it by telling you about the contestants, but I will say that you will see the Singer family, Heath family, Mallory family and Karapetian family.
A special thanks to my good friend Johnna Easter who treated me to a ticket as a guest of the Brown family. Due to technical difficulties with the sign lights, we only saw three shows instead of four and it wasn’t quite the Brown family’s turn. Darn, but we still had a great time!
This was my first time attending a game show and I didn’t know what to expect. We arrived early and stood one of two lines for quite a while, but it wasn’t too bad although a little hot standing outside. One line was for those supporting a family on the show and your name must be on a list. The second line was for those who downloaded and printed tickets from the website, which are free I might add. There is also no $8 parking fee which is really nice!! Each guest must go through a surveillance-machine and security is in full effect. The staff will let you know that there are no phones, no cameras, no gum and no food allowed on the set and of course there are always that few who feel they are above the rules and do it anyway, but at their own risk because the staff won’t hesitate to tell you “Please remove it.” Also be prepared to NOT go to the restroom during the show because there are NO breaks during taping and they also ask you not to leave. So if you have a bladder problem, this show may not be for you.
The setting was awesome! There were over a dozen Family Feud staff from LA making sure everything would go smoothly. There is a lady who sits on the front row in the center to make sure the right questions are asked and if there is an error and there were a few, she would reissue questions. Some of the questions had a sexual overtone, which was a little uncomfortable for the families and the audience. You don't want your first response to be a sexual one because it is a family show, but sometimes the answer would appear. Steve Harvey seemed to be a little shocked himself. I mean what do you say? I may inquire on who is in charge of the questions. The MC "hype guy" Rueben was simply amazing. He taught the crowd when and how to cheer, clap, and dance!! The Family Feud knows how to keep the crowd pumped up!!
Now let me talk about that Steve Harvey who was sharp as a tact (whatever that means) in his suits! Very, very nice suits! There are times when Steve would take questions from the audience, which was exciting. A lady asked Steve how to purchase one of the suits he was wearing which had a hilarious twist because he was wearing a different suit from the one she was asked about. (I guess you had to be there.) Shhhhh, I’ll let you in on a secret. I agreed with the lady. The suit he was wearing was nice but that first charcoal black strip pattern suit with his black and white striped shirt with a white crisp color, black and white small polka dot tie, was a little sweeeeeeeeet! I would love it for my husband. “I don’t recall the locations he mentioned where you can purchase his suits, but here is his website. http://collection.steveharvey.com/menscollection.html I do know that the men’s suits start at size 40 and he also has a youth line. A 17 year old in the audience asked Steve to loan him a few of his suits. I first thought Steve was going to give the much needed teen a suit, but of course Steve turned that into a comedy bit and it was hilarious!
Speaking of husbands and the fact that two of the shows my friends and I were on the first row so I thought I would ask him a question. “On behalf of my husband I am sending much love to you from the Tri Mu Ques in North West Atlanta, and they would like to know if you are not a member of a chapter would you consider joining them.” He for some strange reason thought I was asking him to become a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and he responded by saying “I am already a proud member of Tau Tau ‘’76 baby.” So when I explained to him that I was aware he was an Omega,, but they would like for him to join their chapter he then responded, “I have five jobs and don’t have time to go to meetings…” Well that was about all he said, but I tried.
