"A few days ago I walked along the edge of the lake and was treated to the crunch and rustle of leaves with each step I made. The acoustics of this season are different and all sounds, no matter how hushed, are as crisp as autumn air." - Eric Sloane
What a beautiful summer it was for Nebraskans this 2013. We did, as usual, have our extremely hot and humid days; however, no drought, and no major flooding. Temperatures did continue to be in the mid to upper nineties into the first half of September, and we are still seeing days with temps as high as the mid to upper eighties as we go into October. Predictions for next week, however, do have the air cooling, with temperatures tapering down to highs in the lower to mid-seventies. Still, with the weather being warmer than the norm for this time of year, the cool mornings and the cool nights, assure us that fall is here.
Though this year the leaves are changing at a slower pace, the fall season is still a wonderful time of year. It’s perfect for running, walking, hiking, or just plain checking out the scenery. Yes, just around the corner are the spectacular colors of fall and here in Nebraska we have some views that are absolutely breathtaking. Though the time to catch a gander at all of the changing foliage is brief, at least make the effort to get out and breathe the beautiful fall air for at least one day this year.
One of the most popular recreational summer spots for Nebraskans living in the Dodge County area, or its surrounding neighborhoods, is the Fremont Lakes. Located just outside of the city of Fremont, the lakes are hopping all summer long. Patrons can enjoy fishing, swimming, hiking, and local events sponsored by the city of Fremont.
Well, now the summer is over, the campers have gone, and the kids have all gone back to school. The lakes are still a beautiful place to go on a run, or just an adventure and site seeing hike. They are also a great place to walk your dog. Local residents are seen fishing the lakes year around. In fact, ice fishing is quite popular at the Fremont Lakes; both the old lakes and the new.
Please enjoy the slideshow of the beautiful Fremont Lakes. Though these images are of the older lakes, the contrast of all of the different foliage, the beautiful landscaping, and the sparkling, yet still waters, are absolutely wonderful.
