'The Face' episode 5: 'Every Rose Has its Thorns' (Photos)

Welcome back to another week of "The Face." The episode starts with Jocelyn, Ebony and Margaux putting on their makeup, getting ready to go to this week's test shoot. Jocelyn comments that the competition is definitely getting harder, but she thinks its obvious how much she wants it, or she would have left by now. She thinks the girl that wins "The Face" will be someone who is confident and strong, who can speak. Margaux adds she thinks the girl should be extremely passionate about modeling. Jocelyn seems to think that Margaux has no personality, and with eight years of modeling experience, she's plateaued.

It's time for this week's test shoot. The girls meet Nigel in the work room, and Naomi is standing with him. He tells them that this week's test shoot will be the toughest one yet. He says that modeling is all about selling a product, and that sometimes it's something you can't do by yourself. This week they'll be doing a commercial test shoot for Christian Louboutin. They will be working with a male model. The theme this week is "Chemistry." Naomi brings in someone to help her demonstrate what they're looking for. That someone is New York Knicks star Amar’e Stoudemire. Nigel tells them that Amar’e isn't only a basketball star. He has his own clothing line.

Naomi tells them that when working with a male model, and showing chemistry, you have to become a character and fall in love with him, showing with both your eyes and your body language.

Naomi then sets up for her demonstration of how to perform in the commercial. Amar’e sits on a couch, while Naomi makes her entrance from a spiral staircase. She walks slowly in front of him, then behind the couch, finally ending up on the couch with him, while she utters the only dialogue, "Louboutin's are worth waiting for."

The girls watch in awe, and Ebony wonders if Naomi and Amar’e actually are a couple, but then realizes that they aren't a couple, and that they are acting, and that's what she'll have to do as well. Devyn is looking at Amar’e, and appreciating his good looks. She says that he's single, and she's single, and she gives a come hither look to the camera.

But, just when the girls were looking forward to doing their commercials with Amar’e, Nigel says that Amar’e has to leave for a game, but the girls will be starring with another male model. This guy is equally fine, but still, you can tell the girls were a bit let down.

The girls will now have to film a commercial, showcasing their chemistry with the male model. The winner will receive a pair of Christian Louboutin shoes for herself.

First to go is Ebony, who does have some chemistry with the model, but on her first take, Naomi suggests that she is going too fast. The second try is much better.

Next is Jocelyn, who Naomi has high hopes for in this challenge. Usually, Jocelyn has no problem being sexy, but when she does her take, there is absolutely no chemistry at all. She just looks like she's walking through it without really thinking.

Margaux is third. She does her take, and Naomi isn't impressed. She says Margaux has a beautiful face, but no personality.

ZiLin is next. Naomi is worried about her English pronunciation. She does fairly well, but her English is nearly decipherable.

Devyn has her try next, and she has a lot of chemistry with the male model, and Naomi says that Devyn did really well. She thinks that Devyn has great potential in the competition, and can go all the way.

Stephanie is next to shoot. She's nervous and worried that she can't live up to Naomi's version of the commercial. When she actually shoots, she has incredible chemistry with the model, and Naomi gives her a lot of praise.

The last to go is Sandra, who comes onto the set holding a rose. She says that she wants to stand out, doing something different than the other girls. She comes down the stairs, rounds the couch, and instead of merely flirting with him, like everyone else did, she puts a noisy kiss on his neck, and Naomi falls out of her chair laughing. This pisses off Sandra, and Naomi tells her she needs to get thicker skin. Sandra lines up for a second take, but instead of going to the model, she just walks off the set, saying "I can't take this anymore. I'm done."

Back in Team Naomi's room, Sandra begins to pack her things as Naomi storms in and tells her that she is eliminating herself by not finishing the shoot. She tells her that this is a prime example of Sandra letting her emotions get in the way. The other models are all listening from the area where they were filming. Naomi goes back to Nigel and apologizes, but says she can't continue with the test shoot, and she leaves.

Soon, Sandra returns, regretting how she acted, but she comes back to a room with only the girls and Nigel. He admonishes her for her attitude, and says Naomi is not returning to the judging of the test shoot. Nigel has to decide the winner on his own. And that person is Stephanie.

The next day, the girls meet Nigel, along with a gentleman he introduces as John Caplan. The girls will film a video featuring a product they themselves use. They'll do this as teams. The teams will write the dialogue and each team member must have a speaking part. They'll have 20 minutes to film, and they'll need to complete the video in one complete take. The winning team will get to create actual videos for Opensky.com, plus the winning video will be featured on US Magazine's website. And, each team member will receive $1,000 to spend on the site. BTW, the CEO of Open Sky is John Caplan, and he'll be the judge of the campaign.

John tells the girls that the site is a place where celebrities and non-celebrities alike share what they're about. It's not a shopping site, per se, but a place to share their favorite items.

The girls pow wow together. Team Coco's Stephanie and Margaux decide they'll use a black blazer. Margaux is a bit worried, as Stephanie has an acting background, and she feels she is the underdog in this challenge.

On Team Karolina, Ebony and Devyn discuss which product they will use. Both being women of color, they use pomade on their hair and they also use it on their children, so feel there will be a good story there.

On Team Naomi, Sandra suggests shampoo, since everyone uses shampoo. Jocelyn points out that you can't wash your hair on camera, so that won't work. ZiLin has the idea of either lip gloss or mascara. Sandra isn't worried whatever they choose, because she knows she will have to give her all to try to redeem herself with Naomi.

Naomi joins her girls, and Sandra apologizes for her attitude during the test shoot. Naomi isn't having it, and tells her she doesn't believe her. She doesn't want to waste valuable time rehashing it, so she changes the subject, asking the girls what product they're going to use. ZiLin says that they've decided on lip gloss. Naomi isn't too keen on that, saying it's just so expected, and she suggested something more like a chair. ZiLin suggests maybe they can use a bean bag chair. Everyone else agrees.

In Team Karolina's room, Karolina comes in to talk with Ebony and Devyn. She asks them what they've decided to use as their product. The girls tell her of their idea to use pomade. She seems happy with it, as it's something they both really use.

In Team Coco's room, Coco comes in and congratulates Stephanie on her win in the test shoot. The girls tell her of their idea to use the black blazer as their item. Coco suggests that they have a back story to go along with it.

In Team Naomi's room, Naomi is going over the script with the girls, giving them some ideas of things they can say about the bean bag chair. Naomi is worried about ZiLin's speech, so she suggests that ZiLin adds a line about the chair being comfortable, versatile and stylish in Mandarin, which is ZiLin's first language.

The girls head out to the digital studio where they'll film their campaign. The first to arrive is Ebony and Devyn, who meet with Nigel and Karolina. They get to their set, which will be a simple table and chairs, and they begin describing how they use pomade on their hair. At first they have some problems remembering what to say, but eventually they get it completed, and Karolina really likes the result.

Next team to shoot will be Team Coco. She talks with Margaux and Stephanie about what they plan to do, and she gives them a few tips. She thinks that Stephanie is getting better and better, and she likes Stephanie's ability to give a character, and thinks Margaux should watch out.

The girls start their shoot, and as predicted, it's Margaux who has a problem with her lines and actions. Stephanie is very relaxed and Margaux is very nervous. In the end, they do get something down, but Margaux knows if they don't win, it's going to be her in the elimination room this week.

The final team to shoot is Team Naomi. Naomi and Nigel await the girls, who bring in their bean bag chair. They begin their shoot, and Naomi directs them, telling them to restart, and things not to do, and what to do. She gets worried for ZiLin and her language skills, as ZiLin does have to speak in English as well as Mandarin during the shoot. In the end, we don't really get an idea of how it turned out, so we'll have to wait for the judges to review the separate videos.

John Caplan now joins Naomi, Karolina, Coco and Nigel in a room where they'll watch each of the videos. The first video is from Team Karolina. John really likes their video, which seems very natural.

Next video is from Team Naomi. In my opinion, I thought they looked really stiff. ZiLin's English is such that she needs sub-titles. After it was over, John raved how he loved the video, especially the girl that spoke Mandarin. Huh?

The final video is from Team Coco. The two girls talked about the blazer, and Stephanie did super well, and Margaux didn't seem as nervous in the final take. In my opinion, I think this one is the winner.

John really liked Stephanie's likeability, and he said he would definitely want to shop for that item.

In the end, John decides Team Karolina is the winner. This means Team's Naomi and Coco will have to send a girl to elimination.

Nigel goes in to where the girls are waiting and tells them Team Karolina won the challenge, and Naomi and Coco will be in soon to make their decision on who to send to elimination.

Naomi meets with her girls in the team room. She tells ZiLin that John really liked her in the video, so she is safe. It's between Jocelyn and Sandra, and she chooses Sandra.

Coco meets with her girls in the team room. She says that Stephanie did really well, and she hates to do it, but she has to send Margaux.

In the elimination room, Karolina browses Sandra and Margaux's portfolios. She thinks Sandra is a beautiful girl who takes good photos, but she has problems with her emotions, and can be unprofessional. Margaux, also beautiful, but she seems almost too quiet, without much personality. Who will she pick?

Karolina asks Margaux if she is surprised to be in the elimination room. Margaux replies that she knows that she's worked hard all the way, but that this week, Stephanie just really did a great job, and since there is only two of them, Coco had to pick her.

Karolina asks Sandra how she feels. Sandra admits that she's nervous. Karolina asks her if she's surprised, and Sandra admits that she is not. Karolina asks her why she should move on. Sandra says that she really wants it, and she's not the smartest girl in the world. She's got the looks, not the books. She says that Margaux is really beautiful as well, but she wants it more.

Karolina asks Margaux why she should represent "The Face" over Sandra. Margaux brings up Sandra's unprofessional behavior on set. She says that the winner of "The Face" will be the face of a brand, and if you don't get along with others and you yell at people, you are probably going to get fired. She feels that she has been professional the whole time, and no one in the competition has had a problem with her.

In the end, Karolina decides to send home Sandra.

Back in the waiting room, Margaux comes back, and Naomi tells Jocelyn and ZiLin that Karolina's team is going to loose, and her decision to eliminate Sandra was not the right one. She once again goes ballistic, calling Karolina an idiot, and she walks out of the room.

Next week, the girls will walk the red carpet, and be interviewed by talk show host Wendy Williams, who turns teammates into enemies, asking them, "What do you have that your teammate does not have." The coaches turn against each other, and there is a twist. Two girls will be going home.

Watch next Tue., on March 19, at 9:00 p.m. on Oxygen to find out what happens on the red carpet, and which two girls will be sent packing, leaving the final four to go to the finale.
