The truth about the word friendship is it can mean different things to different people. There are so many interpretations of friendship that you can get slightly confused as to what it really means.. You may call your coworkers friends but are they really? Will they care about you after your job ends? I've found that over many years of experiencing the dynamics and nuances of friendship that there are very distinct characteristics that determine whether an acquaintance has moved into the friendship-sphere and if a friendship has become a lifetime best friend.

The whole truth about friendship is It has to do with the tests that separate an acquaintance, a friend, and a best friend. An acquaintance is someone you have a one dimensional interaction with. You can talk to them about the latest events or things you may have in common about sports or politics. An acquaintance may or may not friend you on facebook and may even be someone you run into around town. An acquaintance does not really know who you are but they know part of who you are based on when and where you met them. They may be nice to talk to about surface-level unimportant events and situations but you wouldn't open yourself up to them in ways that may deem you vulnerable. They may actually be turned off by you even delving into conversations that may be too personal.

A friend, on the other hand, is someone who would actually fit all the criteria of what an acquaintance is but the dynamic of a true friendship is that you can now talk about the things that ail your spirit and unnerve you at times. You can get personal and even gripe about things you each find irritating or spend hours talking about things that make you happy. Friends have a special place in your life because they have embedded themselves just a little bit deeper into your heart.

Best friends are the ones who have surpassed all boundaries when it comes to life experiences. You can talk to your best friend about your family, your relationships, you hygiene, and your number two. Best friends will take you to the hospital when you're sick and walk you to the toilet when you gotta throw up. They are the ones that make you laugh and make you cry. They'll lift your spirits when you need it and knock you down a peg if you need that too. A best friend truly endures the test of time and most of the time will be with you til the end. Best friends come few and far between but when you find them you treasure them for the diamonds in your life that they are. The truth about the evolution of friendship is that you can appreciate all the dimensions of what friendships are and work on building each acquaintance into a good friend who may one day prove to be one of the best kind of friend you could ever have.
