The Evil Within is a survival horror game that “embodies the meaning of pure survival horror”, according to the press release. Based on what I saw at E3 last year, that will probably hold up—although the game admittedly falls back on the all-too familiar trope of starting out in an insane asylum.
You play as detective Sebastian Castellanos, who arrives at said insane asylum and quickly discovers that All is Not Right. It’s far too quiet. There’s a sea of police cars and no cops to be found outside the asylum. So you do the only sane thing and go in alone to investigate.
You can read more of the gory details—and the game is gory—in my preview from E3 2013.
The Evil Within is being developed by Tango Gameworks and will be published by the fine folks at Bethesda for the PC —and of course the Xbox One, Xbox 360®, PlayStation®4 and Playstation 3. (I had to move ‘PC’ to front of that list, naturally.)
