Snoop scoop from the liberterrain…
Are you afraid that Big Brother is secretly tracking your cell phone, snooping into your call history or spying on your email?
According to a new nationwide study by Retrevo.com Big Brother could actually be, well, big brother. Or big sister or Mom or Dad or Hubby.
Even as the News of the World phone hacking scandal deepens and widens in the UK, even as Apple and Google track you online, even as one chunk of government busily concocts laws to prevent Apple and Google from tracking you online while other slabs of government busily devise ever more deceitful means of stalking you (mandatory REAL ID cards, compulsory "black box" surveillance computers in your car, domestic spy drones overhead) you may also be getting scrutinized by your loved ones.
Retrevo.com, billing itself as "one of the largest consumer electronics review and shopping sites in the world" released a study on the subject.
Turns out spouses are tracking their mates, parents are tracking their kids, and boyfriends and girlfriends are tracking each other.
But while Retrevo suggests we need a "Do Not Track" law libertarians should reject that idea.
More laws always means more government. How could this law be enforced? By creating yet another massive bureaucracy run by politically-connected cronies pulling down six figure taxpayer-funded salaries who hire an army of small-brained No Tracking enforcers to track you to make sure you're not tracking somebody?
Personal freedom means personal responsibility. Load your smart phone with apps that turn off the GPS. Use uncrackable passwords and encryption software and anonomyzers.
Don't demand more government. The more you demand freedom, in this case freedom from tracking, the more the market will develop and offer anti-tracking tools. And that includes the so-called black market - what libertarians rightly call the free market – when it comes to frustrating and fooling government tracking.
Mozilla is offering a do-not-track tool to thwart online ads.
An anti-tracking app for jailbroken iPhones is now available.
A Popular Mechanics article helps you fight back.
And according to articles posted at Beat the Chip by the Libertarian News Examiner's REAL ID Special Correspondent Sheila Dean, you can prevent ID theft from portable RFID scanners by simply wrapping your credit cards and your Dictator State's REAL ID driver's license in aluminum foil.
It's responsibility, not government, that will make you free.
