With the onslaught of the Tamil film '7 am Arivu' (7th sense), which was released on Saturday, many have caught up with the phenomena of Bodhi Dharma, and the web is on fire by readers trying to unravel the enigma that Bodhi Dharma is.
See '7 am Arivu photo gallery'.
Bodhi Dharma was a Tamil prince born in Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu. He spread Buddhism to China and is now worshipped there.
The basic ideology behind Bodhi Dharma is that humans use their five senses to come to a conclusion thru their sixth sense, the brain processes the information accumulated by the five senses and gives an educated conclusion thru the sixth. See more details.
However, it is the seventh sense that helps the mind to transcend the sixth sense and enter into the next stage of achieving pure enlightenment. Therefore Enlightenment, Meditation, Yoga, etc. are all tributaries to the main message of Bodhi Dharma.
But here the question arises: why should one attain the seventh sense which eventually leads to understanding the true meaning of life?
Bodhi Dharma attempted to answer this very question by combining the age old wisdom of yoga with Buddhism found by Gauthama Buddha to discover Zen Buddhism by combining various cultures and philosophies in India.
Bodhi Dharma was both a Buddha and Siddha.
