The English Language headlines, goes green

San Jose’s, The English Language, is going above and beyond, since the release of their self-titled, debut effort. Consequently, said efforts are being rewarded with opportunities that not only highlight their presence locally, but add an inter-generational aspect to their appeal - all while saving the planet.

Is there anything they can’t do?

First Things first. On Saturday, April 4th, TEL headlines an all-local, triple-bill show with Joan and The Rivers and Sweet Hyah, at The Caravan Lounge. The no-cover, 21+ show starts at 9 p.m. with doors opening at 8. The show features the sometimes quirky, yet universally-tangible, retro-rock feel that the Bay Area has come to expect from TEL. In support, blues/garage-rock trio, Joan and the Rivers, colors with the grittier, grimier shades of blue, while the female-fronted Sweet Hayah dips into the more soulful side of the genre; brushing against a bit of reggae and other grooves not typical of Western pop music.

Now, for the heroics.

The English Language has been contracted to do soundtrack work for the interdisciplinary, eco-oriented, children’s website greennija.org. The website uses San Jose State University’s departments of Animation and Illustration, Meteorology and Climate Science, Geology, Boadcasting (radio and television), Computer Engineering and Science along with Primary Education to create animated, video shorts, aimed at informing their audience about environmental issues and sustainable solutions. The project is funded, in part, by NASA, the City of San Jose and the County of San Mateo.

The English Language is scheduled to appear in episodes tentatively titled "Foam on the Range" and "Incredible Edible Everything." Both episodes are currently in production, and are slated for release in the coming months.
