The end of the movie decade articles: 9 films of the 1990s

Well today finally concluding the decade articles and ending with the 1990s. The 90s gave way to a new generation of filmmakers and a new generation of movies like Pulp Fiction. So here are 9 films from the 90s.

1. Fight Club (1999)

Based on an equally cool book, this film was about a man in the world of Generation X who meets Tyler and well they start a fight club. I said too much and broke the first rule about not talking about fight club!

2. Michael Collins (1996)

Neil Jordan’s historical film about the 20th Century Irish leader, Michael Collins, Liam Neeson had starred as Collins. It’s a sweeping historical drama with an all star cast, Aidan Quinn, Stephen Rea and Julia Roberts.

3. Heat (1995)

Personally if you’ve never seen Heat then you’ve missed out on a great crime drama that stars two megastars, Al Pacino and Robert De Niro. Basically De Niro is a professional thief and he has a team of thugs then there is Pacino who is a Lieutenant and like De Niro he has his team of men. Thus there you have your cat and mouse chases and shootouts between them. It's an intense thriller!

4. The Crow (1994)

The Crow is an urban fantasy comic book film about a man who comes back from the dead and gets his revenge on the thugs who had killed him and his wife. Sadly Brandon Lee died while filming The Crow. It has a cult status among many people.

5. All About My Mother (1999)

A tale from famed director Pedro Almodovar about a single mother who loses her 17th year old son on his birthday and then decides to find the boy’s father. On her travel to Barcelona she meets all sorts of people, her friend Argado, Rosa a nun, the actress who her son had loved and other assortment of people. Like the trailer says, “Part of every woman is a mother, actress, saint and a sinner. And part of every man is a woman.”

6. Hate (1995)

Vincent Cassel basically got his start in this film because of his performance; Hate is quite absorbing and is a social drama about young men in their 20s who live in a  poor violent French community. The film focuses on a single day in the lives of these three men and how one of their friends is brutally beaten and how Vinz  (Cassel) wants his revenge on the policeman who did it. It’s a raw film with a message showing how violence can affect people and how pointless it is.

7. Elizabeth (1998)

This historical drama about the Tudor Queen, Elizabeth I (who was played by  Cate Blanchett), is one of the best films about the queen. So if you want to step back into the Tudor age this 90s costume drama is a great one to go there with.

8. My Father the Hero (1991)

Andre (Gerard Depardieu) is a divorced man who takes his daughter Veronique on a vacation to a paradise island. The teenage girl is upset that she doesn’t appear as a woman and more as girl so to impress the local boy she makes up all these stories about herself and her father. Andre plays along so that she can impress the boy that she loves. It’s truly a  funny film with a great cast.

9. The Lion King (1994)

This Disney film still is popular and for good reasons its Hamlet for kids. I think we all know the story on how a lion cub thinks that he killed his father but it was really his uncle and he learns about being a king. Cute, sad, and everything you want in a Disney film.

So those are some exceptionally great 90s films that if you’ve haven’t seen yet should really because they’re already classics in their own right. Each film gives something to cinema from social problems to comedy.
