12 Years ago Privacy in America died a violent death. As the World Trade Center burned before the very eyes of millions of Americans, so did the Right to Privacy of the American people. From that moment on things changed. A sort of mania if you will took a hold of the psyche, we as a Nation became a traumatized people. Those in positions of power or aspiring to power in America embrace “a New World Order”. From that moment on the American Government , the National Security State and Private Enterprise came to a conclusion that Americans have lost their Constitutional Right to Privacy.
9/11 was the End of Privacy in America. There are many who like to claim that technology and its rapid advancement have brought forth this moment. However the technology is only a tool that has been dispensed towards this end. This year 2013 12 years later we have seen the aftermath come to the light. This year has given us revelation after revelation about how we the people have lost our privacy. Documents showing how the NSA has already taken out any form of privacy encryption, how private corporations sell our personal data to the highest bidder, how Telecom companies are forced to hand over information all for a “greater good” the list goes on and every day we the people of this Nation come to realize that our Constitutional Right to Privacy is dead. This did not happen overnight, this is a direct result of the 9/11 charade. This has all been a direct result of the Patriot Act.
The Patriot Act still lives. Every time it seems like it will vanish it is continually reauthorized. Very few elected officials dare to show any gravitas and stand up to this monolith. The Patriot Act is a free pass given to the National Security State to deprive Citizens of this Nation their Rights. Originally it was sold as an “efficient way to fight terrorism”. The Act was slammed through a compliant Congress who was riding the coattails of emotion at the loss of life on 9/11. A the time no one realized what the ultimate outcome of the law, but now it has become evident. The Patriot Act is the catalyst for the new monstrosity that the NSA has become. Without the power of the Patriot Act the NSA would not be able to launch its web of domestic spying, nor destroy the Rights of American Citizens. Without the power of the Patriot Act what the NSA has done while not impossible would have been a far more difficult act, the problem is that it has given them the ability to hide behind the “War of terror” so that they can enact their current endgame.
The American people are upset with the surveillance state. Many wish they could turn back the hands of time and have stopped the catastrophe. The problem is that to truly stop the National Security State, its free pass must be revoked. The only way to curb the power of the NSA is to have the Patriot Act repealed. Without the legal cover of the Patriot Act while the NSA would most likely continue to infringe on our Rights, the Court system will not be able to grant them legal victories. If America truly is a Nation of laws, getting rid of the Patriot Act will go a long way in restoring our Civil Liberties. The problem is do we have nay leadership out there, who can rise to the occasion, a Post 9/11 mindset if you will and do away with the aberration that is the Patriot Act? Only time will tell, but it needs to be done quickly if our Democracy is to be restored.
