The Emily Zuzik Band: Livin' In L.A.

The Emily Zuzik Band is here, Los Angeles!  As regular readers already know, Emily Zuzik is an indie singer/songwriter recently located in New York.  Having previously performed here in L.A. (and numerous other places) she has been active in the industry for more than a decade.  Zuzik admits that she missed “being an hour or two in any direction from the desert, the mountains, the ocean or wine country” adding that Los Angeles is “pretty much the Promised Land!”

Zuzik’s signature sound is a blend of electronic and alternative rock.  Recently, Zuzik released her seventh album, The Wild Joys of Living and relocated to the City of Angels.  “Now I’m an Angelino so it’s kind of sweet to be back in the Examiner!”

Zuzik was a recent guest vocalist on Moby’s “The Low Hum” from the Destroyed CD.  She is also the talent behind the theme song to NBC’s Love Bites and has apparently hit the ground running.  Almost immediately upon landing Zuzik was back to work in the music industry.

Just last month she was a featured panelist at the Independent Music Conference in L.A.  She also played an acoustic gig at Bar Lubitsch in West Hollywood.  She’s also excited about the release of her new music video for her song “Motels”.

Regular readers will recall your predicting penman stating that  “Motels” is a surprising piece in that it features an easy sing-a-long chorus and comparatively controversial lyrics that prove that Zuzik can get down and dirty too but in an intelligent, clever manner.  This cut cries out MTV video, folks and don’t be afraid of the “explicit" label it’s been given by some sources.  It’s not rap nasty it’s just a bit bolder than some of her other material, mmmkay?

In fact, Zuzik recently revealed: “It gives me great pleasure and sheer glee to announce that I finally made a music video.  I worked with NJ based production company Four Legged Features to produce a dark and retro-y version of the song "Motels" off my latest album, The Wild Joys of Living.”  In fact, they went live just says ago on YouTube and Vimeo.

When asked about the origins of the tune Zuzik said: “The song itself came about after one of my What's In a Name? Challenges in NYC.   This was an event I started where a group of songwriters would be given a word and we would all write songs with it. The word from this time was Motel. We got some interesting responses to it.”

Zuzik further added:  “I always call this my Queens of the Stone Age ‘desert rock’ song.  I remember thinking I wanted to write something like that only acoustic, maybe add a dash of Camper Van Beethoven to it.  The first line was taken from my friend Brian Grosz's story about how he would go to hotels sometimes to sequester and write. From there, the dark tale began . . .”

Before the year’s end Zuzik plans to do “at least one more show in L.A.”  She is also currently “working to connect to studios for singing work and music supervisors for licensing work.”  Zuzik adds: “Other than that, I plan to enjoy my new home and start building a life in California.”

She may also “play regionally if the opportunity presents itself.”  She concludes: “I'm also beginning to meet some folks for cowriting partnerships in town as well as continuing to work on some material with Art Hays and Wes Hutchinson remotely.”

So look out, L.A.!  The Emily Zuzik Band has landed!
