This will be my fourth Elephant Ride, my first with my 2011 Ural Patrol Sidecar Rig. I've attempted the ride in the last three years, two of them on my '96 Ural Sportsman and the last time on my Suzuki V-Strom Sidecar Rig.
Lots of fun and camaraderie, there's the challenge of riding uphill on sometimes very deep snow, the pushing of one's motorcycle or rig with the help of others, the bracing cold and the warmth you work up while pushing, wondering if you'll slide off the edge of the road....did I mention the pushing?
Never heard of the Elephant Ride?
Here's a link to it's origin from one of the founding members: LINK
This year, it's scheduled for February 10. The start point remains Grant, Colorado though the start time is a bit up in the air. I hope to arrive there around 9:00AM in the company of hopefully several other Ural Sidecar Rigs and their drivers.
Join us! I've seen small and large dualsport motorcycles, trikes, dirt bikes and of course, sidecar rigs!
There were in the past and probably will be this year as well, gatherings and informal festivities the night before in and around the town of Grant.
Ride Safe. Ride Aware.
