The easy yet delicious Los Angeles way out on Mother's Day

Let's face it, if we're just not as adept as Iron Chefs Morimoto and Flay in the kitchen, may not have even a second to spare to saute, or like most mom's-should be treated and pampered this very day, then dining out is the only option for Mother's Day. But sometimes an event to celebrate such as becomes a tedious task; making reservations, waiting for a table, then waiting again for service as the place is packed almost to an SRO, only to find out later that you left the place with almost nothing left in your pocket and a stomach still yearning for more.

Take the easy and delicious Los Angeles way out and dine in some places that may have more elbow room even without a reservation.

Masa of Echo Park- Italian food and wine spells perfect comfort dinner with mom. Famous for their deep dish pizzas, Masa is now becoming a popular choice for pizza, pasta, pastries, and more. Come this Mother's Day and mothers get a glass of champagne for free. Best of all, this place won't break the bank. Just be patient, deep dish does take a while before it ends up on the table, perfect to catch up on some history and updates with mom. T: (213) 989-1558.They accept major credit cards and also serve beer on tap.

Jitlada- When mom loves that little kick and zing, try this location in Hollywood for food with a punch. Featured on Food Network's Best Thing I Ever Ate and a review by Pulitzer Prize winner Jonathan Gold for their Crying Tiger dish. It's famous in Los Angeles all the way to New York for authentically humble and destructively delicious dishes that says homey written all over it. If you're not yet ready to cry then take on some of the lighter flavors nevertheless as delicious. Or try one of the 99 Things to Eat in LA, their Thai curried fish with fish kidneys. T: (323)663-3104. They also serve beer and wine, and take major credit cards.

Taste on Melrose- When you want a taste of variety then try this place. They serve an array of different cuisines from white truffle oil and mushroom mac and cheese, tortilla soup, kobe meatballs, to a generous slice of Ahi tuna for their sandwiches. For Mother's day they have a special 3-course prix fixe brunch menu for only $29 or add just $13 and get unlimited mimosas with your brunch. Good. T:(323)852-6888. They serve alcohol, wines, and beer. They accept major credit cards.

Elite Restaurant- There's nothing like Sunday dimsum lunch for the whole family. And mom doesn't have to cook all these dishes from dusk 'til dawn. Chinatown sounds like a plan for most, but other than the fact that it will be packed, most of the really good dimsum places are not necessarily in Chinatown anymore. Case in point: Elite Restaurant. Don't fret when you see a full house, the service is fast and people know their business. They eat a lot, talk a little, and move on with their day. And the food is delicious too. T:(626)282-9998. They accept major credit cards.

Boiling Shrimp- When the lines at Boiling Crab just gets ridiculously long and winding, then try this still unknown location for a finger-licking Cajun-style seafood dinner with mom, that won't break your bank. It's a fun and more laid-back location where you can just sit, relax, and enjoy the food.  Pounds of fresh shrimp, crab, crawfish, lobster, seasoned with a potent mix of Cajun spices, cooked, and served in a bag that says "it's ok mom, this time we can play with our food".T: (323)668-9113. They accept major credit cards.

Comfort food is mostly associated with memories of Mom and what Mom used to make. Now, it's our time to give back and let her relax, and wine and dine with good food and more great memories. But that doesn't mean breaking your heels in line nor breaking the bank after the meal. Togetherness this day is what matters, really. But it wouldn't hurt to have amazing food on the table while we're at it.
