The early history of the Boston Bruins: part one

The Boston Bruins are the official hockey team of Boston, Massachusetts and part of the National Hockey League. The Bruins were established in 1924. They also have a much newer development team known as the Providence Bruins, which plays in the American Hockey League. Like most sports teams, they have a dedicated following out of their home team. Nary a bar in Massachusetts is without a tribute to the Bruins. Boston Bruins hockey is a part of Boston culture. However, unlike most teams, Boston can boast that the Bruins are one of the oldest hockey teams in the National Hockey League. They were the first NHL team in the United States.

The establishment of the Boston Bruins was spurred on by grocery store chain owner Charles Adams. Charles financed the team and convinced the NHL to bring national hockey to the U.S. He became the first owner and the founder of the Boston Bruins on November 1, 1924. The team played their first game against the now defunct Montreal Maroons exactly one month later. They won -- a fact that Boston Bruins fans will not ever forget. Montreal, particularly the Montreal Canadiens, is to hockey as the Yankees are to baseball. In other words, games against Montreal are the best games to watch, the best games to win and the worst games to lose.
