Legendary band The Eagles have announced today that they will embark on a short 11 city tour starting July 6. The tour is in support of their 2-disc documentary “History of the Eagles” that will be released to DVD and Blu-ray on April 30 which will include a third disc “Eagles Live at The Capital Centre - March 1977.”
Tickets for the tour go on sale March 28 and an American Express presale will begin March 23.
The Eagles have continued to be one of the most successful touring bands, with their 1994-1996 tour Hell Freezes Over being the 16th highest grossing tour in history. That specific tour sold out every show date and saw 3.4 million tickets sold.
The band has six Grammy Awards, seven No. 1 singles and six No. 1 albums. They have sold over 150 million records worldwide, 100 million in the U.S alone. Their 2007 album “Long Road Out of Eden” did so well its first week at Walmart and Sam’s Club stores that that very week Billboard had to change the rules to include store exclusives in their weekly tallies. It debuted at No. 1 and has been certified platinum 7x by the RIAA but with shipments of only 3.5 million. The album was made non-exclusive after the first year of release. At the 2009 Grammy Awards, “Eden” was nominated for four Grammy’s. It went on to take home Best Pop Instrumental Performance.
In the summer of 2010, The Eagles joined the Dixie Chicks and Keith Urban on a stadium tour. To date, no plans are made to record another album. However, it’s not the first time the band has planned to not record another record and took time to complete a new project.
