The Duggar family went to Tokyo, Japan on the Duggars Do Asia episode that originally aired March 12, 2013.
Shortly after they arrived, they went to a traditional Japanese breakfast. Before eating, they had to remove their shoes and sit on the floor. They tried a lot of different foods they'd never eaten before. Mom Michelle Duggar was presented with a green tea cake to celebrate her birthday.
Afterward, the Duggars exchanged their United States currency for Japanese Yen and went shopping. They couldn't find anything in the 100 Yen Shop that had been made in the United States. The Duggars had a hard time communicating with the locals and crossing the busy Shibuya scramble intersection safely.
The older girls decided to buy their younger sisters kimonos. Josh and Anna Duggar, and Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar sat to have their caricatures done. The entire family experienced riding rickshaws.
At a fish market, the Duggars split into two teams to buy all the ingredients they needed to make sushi. Even though Michelle's team cheated, they were declared the winners. After learning how to make sushi at the Tokyo Sushi Academy, Jim Bob, who was the leader of the losing team, had to eat his youngest daughter Josie's sushi. He did not like it. Anna decided not to eat any raw fish in case she was pregnant.
