All eyes were on Kate Middleton today, Jan. 11 as she stepped out for her official portrait unveiling. It wasn’t just the baby bump that people were looking for. Her fashion fans were eager to learn everything about her dress. For this official occasion, the Duchess of Cambridge chose a beautiful, simple maroon ‘Sophia-Rae’ dress from Whistles. The dress is part of the Fall 2011 collection.
Will this dress have the “Kate effect?” Probably not. According to a Jan. 11 Yahoo! Lifestyle UK report, Whistles CEO Jane Shepherson discussed the “Kate effect” after Middleton wore a Whistles blouse in her engagement photos. “It raises profile, it’s great, we get known in countries we’re not known in,' she said. Fortunately, she looks great in it and it’s a great advert, but no more than that.” This is not the first time Middleton has worn this dress. She reportedly wore it during a trip to Denmark, reports the publication.
Will a wearing it the second time be the charm that boost sales for Whistlers? We recently discussed the “Kate effect” after French designer Roland Mouret admitted that when it comes to his clothes, reality television fashionista Kim Kardashian has more selling power than Kate Middleton.
“You don’t see hundreds of women running around looking like her [Kate Middleton],” Mouret said. “To be honest, we’re more likely to get orders on a dress that Kim Kardashian’s worn,” he told The Telegraph.
