During the heyday of The Doors Jim Morrison suggested that between tracks on the albums they put his poems. In possibly a nod to that, Jeff, Ray and John decided to have Johnny Depp (who does the narration in the film “When You’re Strange“) to read Jim Morrison’s poetry.
The studio versions of the songs will be the 40th anniversary remixes of the songs. And for the statistical minded. Yesterday morning the Amazon sales rating was at about 42,000 but after Jeff Jampol’s announcement it shot up into the top 6,000 in sales. The When You’re Strange soundtrack is available for pre-order at Rhino and Amazon and will be released March 30th, 2010.
John Densmore also released information via his website newsletter:
John’s long awaited book has a tentative publishing date of April to coincide with the release of “When You’re Strange.” John is playing his cards close to vest and the title of the book, and the publisher haven’t been released yet, but as more information becomes available we’ll report it.
Straight from John‘s newsletter the announcement of John appearing at a fundraiser for L.A.’s New Roads School:
“John will be performing live Saturday, March 20 when New Roads School celebrates 15 years of educational excellence at SmashBox Studios in Culver City (LA). The Family Music Festival & Expo runs from 12noon to 4pm, with food and expo vendors and a silent auction. Live performances with featured artists also include Stewart Copeland of The Police, Jakob Dylan of The Wallflowers, John Taylor of Duran Duran, Raul Pacheco of Ozomatli, and others. All proceeds benefit the financial aid program at New Roads School. For more info, go to: New Roads 15th Anniversary Bash.”

Jim i always look forward to your articles on the examiner. Keep up the good work.
Great news! I heard Johnny Depp reading Jim's poetry and his tone is perfect. Maybe they should have Jim reading...either way it sounds great.
Thanks for the fresh news Jim.
