We think you're near Los Angeles

The Doobie Bros. play Walworth County Fair, Sunday, Sept. 4

The Doobie Brothers will take the grandstand main-stage at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, September 4 at the 2011 Walworth County Fair in Elkhorn, Wisconsin.

The Chicago Examiner had the privilege of speaking with founding member Pat Simmons in Chicago. Here are excerpts from that interview.

Dustin Alexander (DA): What was your last album?
Pat Simmons (PS): World Gone Crazy was released in 2010 from HOR Records.

DA: Do you guys have anything going on in the studio at this time?
PS: The band doesn't at the moment. I'm involved in writing some songs of my own. But you never know what's going to happen with the band. Since we put out our last record, we've had more interest in releasing another album.

DA: You guys have been making music for many, many years. You'll have a ton of fans that will be happy to see you all at the Walworth County Fair. Are you guys excited to be over there?
PS: It's always great to be in Milwaukee. For myself, I'm a huge motorcycle fanatic so it goes without saying I love Harley-Davidson bikes, the history and everything. I always equate coming to Wisconsin with Harley.

DA: That's a good company.
PS: Yeah. My wife and I actually have a bike in the Harley Museum. My wife road cross country on a 1915 Harley.

DA: Wow! Not many people can say that. That's cool!
PS: No, they certainly can't. About 40 people can say that because that's how many people made it cross country on a 95 or 100-year-old motorcycle.

DA: You gentleman are quite busy. You'll be in the Midwest tomorrow, then Indianapolis, and two appearances in Los Angeles.
PS:
Where pretty much continuously busy every year. We've been around for 40-years. We've toured almost every year. Since 1989, we've been on the road doing 100+ shows a year. We've always enjoyed playing live for audiences.

That's a huge part of our lifestyle. Then again with our new release, we've got some new music to add to the excitement for us. It's what we do. We're excited to be coming here. I just love that part of the country. The fall is a good time for bands to be on the road. The fall is kind of an exciting [season], it always feel like sort of a renewal; getting ready for the next year 2012.

We're still out there, on the road, doing tours. We're getting ready to head over to New Zealand this Winter and do some shows “down under” in Australia. Then we'll be going to Hong Kong and some other ancient countries. So we're just continuing what we've done for a long time.

DA: We'll have more of the Doobie Brothers interview with Pat Simmons in a future edition of The Examiner.
