Celebrity Chef Rocco DiSpirito shared the details of his new book The Pound a Day Diet during his appearance on The Doctors on February 27.

Rocco DiSpirito shared the details of his newest book The Pound a Day Diet in which The Doctors expressed concern over the calorie deficit required to achieve results.

In the book DiSpitito promises 5 pound weight loss per week without experiencing a plateau. DiSpirito instructs readers to consume 850 calories per week for the first few weeks in order to see results.

The book comes with recipes for 28 days that are based on the Mediterranean-style diet which are carb and calorie corrected to turbocharge metabolism and weight loss.

The Pound a Day Diet claims to be a, “rapid weight-loss regimen designed to re-educate palates and perspectives about dropping pounds quickly and keeping them off. Based on the most current nutrition research, this approach dispels the belief that a slow, steady loss is the best way to lose weight and avoid regaining.”

According to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) daily caloric intake should be as follows:

Children 2-3 yrs - need 1000 calories per day
Children 4-8 yrs- need 1200-1400 calories per day
Girls 9-13 yrs – need 1600 calories per day
Girls 14-18 yrs – need 1800 calories per day
Boys 14-18 yrs – need 2200 calories per day
Females 19-30 yrs – need 2000 calories per day
Males 19-30 yrs – need 2400 calories per day
Females 31-50 yrs – need 1800 calories per day
Males 31-50 yrs – need 2200 calories per day
Females 51+ yrs – need 1600 calories per day
Males 51+ yrs – need 2000 calories per day
