The Des Moines Music Coalition will hold its annual Backstage Ball fundraiser at the Kirkwood Building in Downtown Des Moines on Friday, February 28 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. The event will celebrate Cajun jazz, honor five community people/entities, and raise money to help fund DMMC signature events like, the 80/35 Music Festival, Little Big Fest, Gross Domestic Product, and Music University. Tickets for the non-profit, volunteer-based organization's fundraiser and awards ceremony are $75, and they may be purchased online through MidwesTix.
This year's Backstage Ball will feature music from the Party Gras Classic Jazz Band, a silent auction, food & drink, and dancing. The Des Moines Music Coalition will also be presenting awards to:
Art Slusark - Hurd Award for Community Support
Angela Rauch - DMMC Volunteer of the Year
Andrew Smith - Music Fan of the Year
Iowa Concert Photographers
Bonita and Keith Crowe (owners of GrapeVine)
The Greater Des Moines Partnership’s CEO (and also a local musician) Jay Byers will serve as emcee for the event. You can watch a video clip from last year's Backstage Ball award ceremony at the top of the page. For more information on the Des Moines Music Coalition, go to their website.
