During our recent discussion with Eric Hirshberg, Activision's CEO, we had a chance to talk about the surprising success of the Skylanders series. While Swap Force was recently released for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii and Wii U, a version of the game is also heading to Sony and Microsoft's next-gen platforms. We asked Hirshberg how the upcoming versions of the game would stack up against what is available on shelves now.
I'd have to say the graphics are the most immediate difference that is demonstrable. Obviously in a year like this, there is a lot of excitement and focus on the next-gen for obvious reasons. People want to see what the new machines can do, but the majority of the install base is still on the current-gen.
Hirshberg continued, stating that the developers wanted to make sure that Swap Force was enjoyable on both generations of consoles. This means that fans will be able to appreciate the title regardless of which system they purchase it for. This may also mean that, as a PS4 and Xbox One launch title, the aforementioned graphical upgrade may be the only defining difference between the different versions. The PS4 launches on November 15th, with the Xbox One following a week later on the 22nd.
