Debate has sometimes surfaced as to whether brown rice is healthier than white rice. While some believe that white rice is essentially the same as brown rice, the truth is that brown rice is healthier and more nutritious for you than white rice.
Moon Cho, creator of Ying & Yang Living, says that, "In search for healthier grains, brown rice is by far the better choice." So what is the difference between brown rice and white rice?
With brown rice, the outermost layer, known as the husk, is removed, while the layers below, the brand and the germ, are kept in tact. "These brand and germ carry all the nutritional value", Cho says. "In the white rice, ALL layers are removed." This diminishes and removes the nutritional value of white rice.
Brown rice is also loaded with antioxidants, and it promotes weight loss, reduction in cholesterol levels, and lowers the risk of Type II Diabetes. It has a nuttier flavor also and a six month storage life.
In the end, it is safe to conclude that brown rice is very much different from white rice, and it contains much more nutrition and health benefits. In searching for the healthier carbohydrate, brown rice is your better choice.
