The Dichotomy of Alexis Brown - Straight Line Stitch in Central Florida

Listen to the opening riffs of Straight Line Stitch's 2008 release When Skies Wash Ashore brings images to mind of another angry growling young man trying to get his point across while the band plays brutally hard.  Before the first thirty seconds are up, though, something different comes into play.  That angry young man is actually a sometimes growling & screaming, sometimes soulful & melodic female singer named Alexis Brown.  This creates quite a dynamic in that your standard metalcore release can get monotonous occasionally.  This record draws you in with the occasional soulful hook, and her singing voice is infectious.  Make no mistake though, this is real metal.

Never See The Day starts the record off with an explosion, and the band doesn't look back from there.  They thrash through the first nine tracks on the disc, with Alexis sharing singing/screeching duties with Jamey Jasta from Hatebreed on one track entitled Taste Of Ashes.  The songwriting is solid, with the band slowing down only at the end to play the acousticYesterday's Gone, and you may be thankful for the wind down by the time it comes.  There are many high points here and the record as a whole has no filler.  One track after another pulls you in.  This is an impressive release.  It should be interesting to see where they go from here.

Vocalist Alexis, guitarist Seth Thacker, Bassist Jason White, & Drummer Kanky Lora have been touring on their 2008 release & will visit Central Florida on Thursday, January 20th at Levelz in Melbourne & Friday, January 21st at Club Firestone opening for nonpoint.  That's two dates right here in this area.  Go and support this heavy, hook laden band & you can say you knew about them before everyone else did.
