Local non-profit the Des Moines Social Club is organizing a summer music camp for girls ages 10 through 18. The camp, called Girls Rock! Des Moines (or GR!DSM), is a two-week summer day camp where girls can receive instrumental instruction, form bands, and write songs to be performed at the GR!DSM showcase. GR!DSM "provides girls an opportunity to collaborate creatively in an environment of mutual respect and positive self-expression."
The camp will offer campers their choice of instruction in voice, guitar, bass, keyboards, DJing, or drums. Campers will be able to participate in music workshops such as recording, sound engineering, and music art. The camp will feature local and touring musicians performing daily and participating in a variety of non-musical workshops designed to "build self-confidence and encourage creativity, personal exploration, and growth" in campers.
Further details on GR!DSM will be announced in the coming weeks on the Des Moines Social Club's website. Those wishing to contribute to the program, may make donations through the DMSC website (add GR!DSM in the first line of your address) or the GR!DSM website.
