The Depot Lane Singers of Schoharie

At the Schoharie High School Gymnasium of Schoharie, NY the Depot Lane Singers will be performing their annual spring concert on May 5 at 7:30 PM. The concert is titled "Once Upon A Time" and is said to take the audience on a trip through time and space that will fill you with emotion. You will not want to miss this if you're a fan of choral music!

The Depot Lane Singers are a choral group consisting of different community members who sing, hoping to help cheer your day. If they've made you a happier person, then you've made them one, too. The group was founded in September 1979 by Frances B. Tripp with 55 area residents. Unfortunately, Frances Tripp passed away in December 2010. However, the Depot Lane Singers are now directed and conducted by Mitch Haverly, who had taken this position in the fall of 2005. The group have also been guests at the inauguration ceremony at Cobleskill-Richmondville Central School and also at the 4th Annual Celebration of National Volunteers Week at Proctor's Theater in Schenectady, put on by the Tall Ships Centennial Celebration located in Albany.

You are also asked to their concert in hopes of giving donations, as they are a non-profit organization, so that they can restore the Depot Lane Theatre as well as other historical buildings in the area. The area was destroyed by Hurricane Irene in the late summer and left many people devastated. Due to this, the Depot Lane Singers didn't even have a practice space. But, the Depot Lane Singers looked past this painful tragedy and remembered who they were and what they sang for. They took their rehearsals to the Zion Lutheran Church of Cobleskill and later to the Schoharie High School Auditorium for their Christmas Concert.

Since then, the group has returned to their "home" at the Depot Lane Theatre, but it's just not the same. The group is sponsored by the Schoharie Colonial Heritage Association (SCHA) who receives a portion of the concert revenues. With this income, they hope to get even a tiny step closer to restoring the community to its natural state.

Also, you are welcome to join the group if you enjoy singing yourself.

"If you love to sing, you'll love singing with us!" is their motto.

There are no auditions, so everyone is welcome and you're guaranteed to have some fun.
