With the sentencing of convicted rapists in Steubenville and the arrests of girls threatening the victim, the looming arrests, etc. coupled with the antics of the Chardon High School murderer, people are wondering where society's morals have gone.
This is a valid, sobering question to ask.
It used to be that people looked out for one another, helped where they could. Now, it seems, people are content to sit back and let anything happen to anyone, so long as it doesn't affect them personally.
The Steubenville case is a prime example. An entire party watched as a 16 year old girl was victimized and the school football coach allegedly conspired to cover it up.
Another example is a New Jersey man who was just convicted earlier this month of beating a homeless man severely while video-taping it to post on YouTube.
According to the NY Post, the cameraman asked the man what he was about to do. He replied, "About to go beat up this bum."
The significance of the individual is no longer of concern, being replaced by politicians and professors, etc. in favor of collectivism, turning the individual into a faceless, nameless cog.
The sanctity of life and family have lost their place in our priorities, replaced with abortion on demand, the acceptance and even praise for unwed mothers to essentially become baby mills, the fathers to deny responsibility, gay marriage, etc.
We have devolved from a culture that flinched at the televised depiction of a married couple sleeping in the same bed into one where every other commercial is for boner pills. We lift people such as the "Octomom" and the Kardashians to celebrity status due to their irresponsible behavior.
We have become callous. Case in point, most of you reading this didn't bat an eyelash at the phrase "boner pills" above.
The federal government is also complicit in the breakdown of the family unit.
For example, the government makes it more advantageous for women and men on the dole and having children to remain unmarried. Women receiving welfare having a baby with a man on welfare, receive separate checks. Upon marriage, they would only receive one check for a lesser amount.
Parents who were raised by television sets are having children who are being raised by social media and smart phones. They are being taught at school that whatever they want to do is acceptable and deviant behavior is normal.
In fact, Obama appointed former "Safe Schools Czar" Kevin Jennings and his group GLSEN (Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network) sponsored conferences in 2000 and 2001 dubbed "Fistgate" and "Fistgate II" which promoted gay sex, promiscuity, and proper "fisting" techniques among other topics to children as young as 12 years old.
California's ban on gay marriage has reached the Supreme Court, expected to be heard this coming Tuesday. The outcome could adversely affect the 40 other states that also define marriage as between a man and a woman, a sacred rite given by GOD, not a civil right granted by government.
Unfortunately, more and more children are being taught that there is no GOD, that the values and traditions of church and country are outdated and immoral and that promiscuity and decadence are the route to true happiness.
Even more unfortunate is the realization that it is unlikely that things are going to get better any time soon.
