The debate on medical marijuana is front and center

Over the last few years, there has been much debate about politicians about marijuana and its effectiveness in treating serious medical conditions, such as cancer.

While surrounding states such as Connecticut have now approved the sale of marijuana for medical uses, New York remains on the fence when it comes to medical sale of the drug.

Due to the massive public support and research supporting the effectiveness of marijuana, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is now coming closer than ever to approving the legal sale of the drug. The law, if approved, would enable patients who are 21 and older to smoke marijuana, though strictly for medical purposes.

Perhaps the biggest concern over such a bill being passed is that it would lead to greater abuse of the drug.

Supporter of the latest bill proposal have argued that New York state would have tight control of the sale and production of the drug. Despite the massive support medical marijuana bills in New York have been given, all previous attempts to get the bill passed have stalled.

It remains to be seen if the latest attempt for this bill will, in fact, pass.
