The debate on medical marijuana continues

Over the last few years, there has been much debate about politicians about marijuana and its effectiveness in treating serious medical conditions, such as cancer.

In New York, there has always been a great deal of support for the medicinal use of marijuana. However, despite the ongoing public support, no bill has ever passed in the state to allow legal use of the drug for patients who are afflicted with cancer, or other serious conditions.

However, there will be a vote on the issue by the Senate health committee of New York.

Although surrounding states, including Connecticut, have already approved the sale of marijuana for medical uses, New York has always remained somewhat on the fence when it comes to the issue.

With tomorrow's vote, the state is now coming closer than ever to approving the legal sale of the drug. The law, if approved, would enable patients who are 21 and older to smoke marijuana, though strictly for medical purposes.

Perhaps the biggest concern over such a bill being passed is that it would lead to abuse of the drug.

Supporters of the latest bill proposal have argued that New York state would have tight control of the sale and production of the drug. Despite the massive support medical marijuana bills in New York, all previous attempts to get the bill passed have stalled.
