On Thursday, September 12, 2013 Candace Pert, Ph.D. passed away unexpectedly. During her career she published over 250 scientific articles and received her Ph.D. in pharmacology from Johns Hopkins University. She was the author Molecules of Emotion: The Scientific Basis Behind Mind Body Medicine (Scribner 1997 and Everything You Need to Know to Feel Go(o)d (Hay House 2006). Dr. Pert was well recognized for appearing in the feature film What the Bleep Do We Know!? and Bill Moyer's television program, Healing and the Mind. She was a forerunner in the field of mind body medicine and psychoneuroimmunology and served as the chief of the section on brain biochemistry of the clinical neuroscience branch of the National Institute of Mental Health.. She had dedicated herself personally to developing an AIDs vaccine as well as the treatment of other diseases. She was also very proud of having created musical guided imagery CDs, including Psychosomatic Wellness: Healing Your Body-Mind and other healing meditation CDs as collaborative efforts with her son Brandon.
Dr. Craig Weiner of EFT Tapping Training.com recently had the opportunity to spend several hours with Candace and had the rare opportunity of interviewing her for his radio program on the EFT Radio network. "I was deeply touched by Candace's authenticity, brilliance, playfulness, and integrity", said Dr. Weiner. "From the first moment we began speaking she brought both a vulnerability and tremendous insight as a human being and a scientist." As a woman in a field dominated by men, her tenacity, compassion, and an open-mindedness in a rare and powerful way.
He goes on to say, "Her groundbreaking research into the understanding of endorphin receptors in the brain opened the door to so much of what is referred to as everything from mind-body medicine to psychoneuroimmunology and thus paved the way for the acceptance of practices like EFT tapping that would have had little chance of being taken seriously before her work. Her commitment to healing, of integrating spirituality and physical health and her willingness to openly discuss all of these as a highly educated research scientist, made her instantly respected and adored by millions of people who were able to experience her in the various media she was involved with. It is with deep regret that I will not have the opportunity to have our friendship deepen and to watch and see what she still had left to pull out of her sleeve."
