The Dead Matter movie

Vampirism, the supernatural and the living dead all live in "The Dead Matter." From our friends at Midnight Syndicate, who have given the world some of the coolest and creepiest genre music, comes their first film, and it's officially complete.

A relic with occult powers falls into the hands of a grief-stricken young woman named Gretchen, whose desire to reconnect with her dead brother draws her into the supernatural world of vampirism and the living dead. Drenched in the dark and shadowy music of Halloween horror legends Midnight Syndicate and co-produced by Robert Kurtzman (Producer From Dusk Till Dawn, co-founder KNB FX) and Gary Jones (Xena, Ghouls), The Dead Matter is a supernatural thriller inspired by EC Comics, Creepshow, and Hammer Films, featuring a mix of classic horror themes with modern twists that promise to keep audiences on the edge of their seats. The movie stars Andrew Divoff (Lost, Wishmaster), Jason Carter (Babylon 5, Angel), Tom Savini (Dawn of the Dead, Lost Boys 2), and legendary television horror hosts Dick "Count Gore DeVol" Dyszel (featured in a recent Horror Happening column) and Big Chuck Schodowski.

Sarah from Midnight Syndicate alerted us that post-production wrapped up last month with director/composer Edward Douglas and sound editor Patrick Giraudi finalizing the mix and colorist Jim Garrow dialing in the finishing touches.

"I am absolutely thrilled with how the movie came out," said Douglas. "I think it's exactly what fans would expect from a Midnight Syndicate movie: Classic horror themes... very atmospheric, very creepy... and loaded with twists and turns that really pull you into the dark world we try to create on all the Syndicate discs. It's definately a fun ride for fans who enjoy a good story and an old-school edge to their horror films."

An official date has not been set yet, but a 2009 release is expected.

Midnight Syndicate's next CD will be the soundtrack to The Dead Matter. With a debut planned to coordinate with the release of the movie, the disc is expected to contain highlights from the score to the film as well as other music featured in the film. Some of the bands whose music appear in the  ovie include Midnight Syndicate CD release party favorites Lazy Lane (lead singer Lily Lane collaborate with the band on The 13th Hour disc), Denny Carleton (collaborator from the self-titled Midnight Syndicate disc), Cleveland-based Quanta, UV, Gavin Goska's Parlormuse, and hiPNOSTIC. The band also plans to include some remixes from other artists.
