The DC WARL to receive 10 pit bulls rescued from dog fighting ring in Ohio

The Washington Animal Rescue League  will be receiving 10 pit bulls that the Humane Society of the United States rescued from a dog fighting operation in the rural eastern part of Ohio.

More than 500 animals were found on the scene including 200 American Pit Bull terriers. In addition, 300 other animals including chickens, roosters, turkeys, boars and reptiles were also present.

The owner surrendered all of the animals to the Humane Society of the United States, and they are working with local and national groups to place these dogs. While some of these dogs have been place, at least  300 other animals are with rescue organizations, or in homes.

Dog fighting is a blood sport in which game dogs are made to fight, sometimes to the death. Dog fighting is used for entertainment and may also create a revenue stream from stud fees, admission fees, and gambling.

Where are these kennels located?

Illegal kennels are all over the United States breeding and training dogs for fighting.  Many go undetected and are "hidden" in family neighborhoods.  Only to be discovered when a tragedy occurs.  These kennels can become sites for illegal activities.  Often dogs in the surrounding community begin to disappear because they are stolen to be used for "bait" dogs.  Dogs are often used to guard the property and intimidate those around it.  Dogs and other animals that are destroyed are often disposed of illegally.  This creates health hazards for those who live nearby.

If you are concerned there may be dog fighting going on in your community contact your local animal control office or The Humane Society of the United States at 202-452-1100.

Is the abuser getting a reduced sentence in exchange for paying "restitution" which will follow these pit fighting dogs?
How much money does WARL get for each dog?

These dogs were bred for aggression and then raised to attack dogs. Do the neighbors of the adoptees get fair warning?

These dogs should be put down.
