In Hebrew, the word Chai means life, and it also stands for the number 18. On June 14, The Day School at Baltimore Hebrew, will culminate its Chai commemoration, “18 Years and Counting!” with a celebratory dinner to honor the school's founders and supporters.
Thriving at 18, The Day School at Baltimore Hebrew’s blend of personal attention, small class size, 21st century academics and an integrated and progressive Judaics program makes it unique.
“Baltimore Hebrew Congregation is thrilled to celebrate The Day School at Baltimore Hebrew’s 18th Anniversary,” Rabbi Andrew Busch said. “I love having happy, lively children walking past my office. Their discussions and laughter are always inspiring and bring such promise to our Jewish future.”
To culminate the Chai celebration, a reception and dinner will feature Shoshana Cardin, one of Baltimore’s greatest supporters of Day School education, as speaker. Parents of students, current and future, and the outside community are invited to take part in the celebration.
In May the school hosted a Fine Arts Festival which included displays of visual art from students ages two to fourteen, a silent auction, bake sale and student and alumni performances. Students performed musical numbers ranging from Hebrew standards to modern musicals, all centered on the theme of "life."
Alumni performers included Asya Hankin (’02) along side her all-female acapella group The Treblemakers of University of Maryland College Park, Hannah Creech (’05) now of Goucher College, and Erica Laskin (‘08) a vocal music major at Carver High School and member of Hazamir.
“When my parents made the decision to send me to The Day School at Baltimore Hebrew, they set me on the path to success I am on now, as well as my spiritual path.” commented Richard Simon, alumni and now board of trustees member.
