On Saturday, November 12, The Dancer’s Boutique hosted a two-hour grand opening champagne celebration and fashion show. The boutique, housed at the rear of Dance It Studio on South Orange Avenue in Orlando, opened about one month ago, offering new and pre-owned ballroom dance costumes to Central Floridians.
In the wake of The Dance Dresser’s surprising closure during the summer, The Dancer’s Boutique has stepped in to fill the void in Metro Orlando’s burgeoning ballroom community.
Boutique owner and host of "The Daily Buzz" morning show, Kia Malone hosted the affair, which featured costume collections grouped according to themes, such as “I Want Candy” and “Winter Wonderland,” each set to appropriate music.
About 8 female models, students and instructors at Dance It Studio, whirled and twirled in brightly colored and heavily stoned costumes designed to fit a variety of figures. Some junior dancer costumes were previewed as well as some designed for dancers who like a bit more coverage. Upwards of 50 costumes were displayed. Male models served as handsome props as well.
During musical intermissions, elegantly tuxedoed emcee Craig Forrester, co-owner of Dance It along with Eddie Rivera, couldn’t resist the urge to do “The Running Man” step to Vanilla Ice’s “Ice Ice Baby” in a flashback to the 90s. Clearly not a ballroom step but nonetheless entertaining.
The show concluded with a preview of Kiana Kouture, Malone’s own design line named after her daughter.
Guests were treated to an impressive array of antipasto, fruits & cheeses, and gourmet cupcakes as well as a champagne toast to culminate the festivities.
The Dancer’s Boutique also carries a few ballroom dance shoes and show-appropriate jewelry. They also carry the now all-important dance accessory in one-size-fits-all – spray tan.
