The Damn Quails crack top 10 on indie charts, nab 3 Lone Star Music Awards nods

Gabriel Marshall and Bryon White of The Damn Quails already have found a career first in the New Year, thanks to the fact the pair's cracked the top 10 on the Americana music chart.

Specifically, the act's debut Down The Hatch CD, which was released in late 2011 on the players' own 598 Recordings, has edged its way to the No. 8 spot on the Americana Airplay Top 10 at this writing. And for those keeping a tally, the disc first debuted on the Americana charts in December at the No. 26 position.

Based in Oklahoma, The Damn Quails have garnered critical acclaim since their inaugural album dropped, and the record's first single, "Fool's Gold," also has snaked its way to the No. 8 spot on the Feb. 6, 2012, TexNet50 Chart, a Texas music and Red Dirt music-focused chart that is complied and maintained by the Texas Music Assocation.

Regarding the lineup's quick rise on the indie music charts, “It’s amazing to be in company with some of the folks that paved the way for us to do what we do," Gabriel has said. "We are honored to help carry the torch of independent music, and I am as proud as I can be of the guys I get to play with in this band.”

Adding to the band's good fortune is a trio of nods from the Lone Star Music Awards in the categories of Best Americana/Roots-Rock Album, Emerging Artist of the Year and Best Album Artwork.

Fans can cast their votes online between now and Feb. 29. Winners of this year's Lone Star honor will be announced at the Texas Music Theater in San Marcos, Texas, on April 1, 2012, the same night as the 2012 ACM Awards in Vegas, by the way.

As for how The Damn Quails are measuring their success these days--with top-10 indie chart favor and industry nods, among other lucky occurrences--Gabriel told Examiner.com that a multitude of indicators work together to help the act gauge its growing favor.

"Here at the Quail camp we measure our success by charts and numbers, sure, but gaining the friendship and respect of the fans and the talented artists that share this journey with us is a much deeper, fulfilling kind of success," he proclaimed.

'Nuff said, no? … And in the meantime, long before the final Lone Star Music Awards ballots are tallied or newer chart rankings are revealed, music fans can check out The Damn Quails on the road here, there and yonder, including an April 14 show with Robert Earl Keen in Austin.
