The Dallas Opera Pursuits of Passion 2012-2013 season is off to a stellar start with its critically acclaimed "Aida" sold out season opener. TDO continues to reach out to the DFW community with a variety of operatic events from family concerts to the children’s opera “Jack and the Beanstalk” in an artistic collaboration with Dallas Children’s Theater. For those who think of opera as stodgy, there is a strong push to include more cutting-edge 21st century works in its repertoire.

This fall TDO received a $30,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts in support for the production “Death and the Powers” a groundbreaking regional premiere for the 2013-2014 season. This contemporary one act sci-fi opera combines the arts with science while asking intriguing questions if science can create immortality.

On Sunday, January 27, 2013 The Dallas Opera joins forces with The Dallas Museum of Art to present “Music & Masterpieces,” combining visual and performing arts disciplines. This program is dedicated to the exhibition Contemporary Female Artists at the DMA.

For those who love classic opera Giacomo Puccini’s “Turandot” opens April 5, 2013 at the Winspear Opera House. “Turandot” is sung in Italian with English supertitles and stars Lise Lindstrom, Antonello Palombi, Hei-Kyung Hong and Christian Van Horn. Puccini’s last masterpiece is based on Carlo Cozzi’s fable, “Turandot” and was first performed in Milan at La Scala, April 25, 1926.

On April 12, American composer Dominick Argento’s “The Aspern Papers” celebrates its 25th anniversary of The Dallas Opera world premiere commission in an exciting new production. On Thursday, January 22, 2013 The Dallas Opera General Director and CEO Keith Cerny along with KERA Art&Seek’s Jerome Weeks will discuss creating new music for the 21st century with Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Dominick Argento. On Tuesday, January 29, 2013 the TDO offers The Aspern Papers Book Club event at the Winspear Opera House.

Season ticket packages are currently on sale as well as single tickets. Pick two operas from The Pursuits of Passion season: “Turandot” and “The Aspern Papers” and get subscription ticket exchange benefits.
