On the evening of Thursday, February 6, the Dallas Historical Society will host a lecture featuring historian Jeffrey Mills. A clip from his film documentary, "History of the Interstate Theatres." will be shown during the lecture. The documentary is a PBS production and covers 70 years of movie-going in America.

The film and lecture will focus particularly on the Interstate Theatres, a national theater chain that had its beginnings in Vaudeville and followed the entertainment trend to motion pictures. Interstate owned several renowned locations in Dallas, including the Majestic and the Palace, along with many others. As with a large number of theater chains, the company folded in the 1970s, due mainly to growth of suburbia and urban decay, but the ever-increasing popularity of television as well.

The film will be premiering on PBS later this summer. The program is free and open to the public, although advance registration is required. Doors open to the public at 6:00, and the program will began at 6:30 p.m. at the Hall of State in Fair Park, 3939 Grand Avenue in Dallas.
