Always a great place for sci-fi/fantasy fans, the CW is quickly becoming a leader in genre tv series. To the delight of fans everywhere, including myself, they are currently looking at five new pilots that sound like real winners.
Oxygen has not begun casting yet, but the logline goes like this:
“Passion and politics threaten the peace and an epic romance ignites between a human girl and an alien boy when he and eight others of his kind (The Orion 9) are integrated into a suburban high school ten years after they and hundreds of others landed on Earth and were immediately consigned to an internment camp where they’ve been imprisoned ever since.”
The Hundred is based on the upcoming book series by Kass Morgan. Set 97 years after a nuclear war has destroyed civilization. a spaceship housing humanity's lone human survivors sends 100 juvenile delinquents back to Earth to check out the possibility of re-colonizing the planet.
The Tomorrow People is a revamp of the 70's British tv series with a new twist. Like the original, the story is about a group of young people that have evolved and have what we would call super powers that they use to fight evil (think Alphas or Heroes). A new kind of superhero, their abilities include things like telepathy, telekinesis and teleportation.
And one of the most anticipated pilots, The Selection is a Hunger Games-esque adaption of the book by Kiera Cass. Set 300 years in the future, this epic romance is centered on a working class young woman that is chosen, by lottery, to compete with 25 other women to wed the Royal Prince and become the nation's next queen. She must remain true to herself while competing in the cutthroat intrigue while a rebellion threatens to change everything.
Amazon, the new Wonder Woman pilot, has been put on the back burner yet again. It is not totally out, but things don't look good for now.
