The CW crowns Louise Lombard its second 'Selection' queen

The CW has added a new lady to its second pilot effort to adapt Kiera Cass' The Selection.

Per Deadline, Louise Lombard (CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, SGU Stargate Universe) has been plucked to star as Queen Amberly, the well-liked matriarch of Illea's royal family who oversees the competition for her son's heart. The role was originally played by Leonor Varela last year when the network first attempted piloting a show based on Cass' novel.

Louise Lombard joins co-stars Yael Grobglas (America Singer), Lucien Laviscount (Aspen Leger), Michael Malarkey (Prince Maxon), Anthony Head (King Clarkson), Sarah Winter (Ashley), Celia Massingham (Celeste), Sean Patrick Thomas (Sylvan Santos) and Peta Sergeant (Gaia) in the series starter, directed by Alex Graves.

Set 300 years in the future, an epic romance centering on a working class young woman chosen by lottery to participate in a competition with 25 other women for the Royal Prince’s hand to become the nation’s next queen. Balancing her loyalty to family, true love, and kingdom, she must attempt to remain true to herself as she navigates the cutthroat competition and palace intrigue, all while a budding rebellion threatens to topple the crown."

Book two of the series, The Elite, will hit shelves on April 23.
