The iTunes App Store website has confirmed the release of a new game on iOS devices. That title is “The Cursed Ship, Collector’s Edition,” and it was released on May 1, 2014. This game is a point-and-click style puzzle adventure, in which the player must explore the environment thoroughly in order to progress in the game. The title is available to download for free, but the player must purchase a $4.99 in-app purchase to experience the whole game. This game is available on iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad devices.
As stated previously, “The Cursed Ship, Collector’s Edition” is a point-and-click puzzle game. This requires the player to observe their environment closely, and tap the screen when they see suspicious or otherwise important objects and locations. The adventure and story unfold as the player solves puzzles and completes quests. With 100 quests to complete, 66 locations to explore, and 43 puzzles to solve, the quest is quite lengthy. Most of the puzzles will be relatively easy for most players that are familiar with these types of games, but some of the puzzles will test the player’s mental prowess.
The game opens with a black and white film reel showcasing the “cursed ship” (called the Ondine) on its maiden voyage. After it sets sail, and second film reel plays, exclaiming the news that the ship has disappeared. The player is tasked by a group known as the Trident Corporation to locate the ship and salvage what they can. To avoid spoilers, no more details related to the story will be mentioned here.
The title has excellent production values. The title features voice acting for the major characters, and features sound effects and musical pieces that suit the situation and the actions of the player. The title also utilizes well produced graphics, in both the static images and moving objects.
