The Cube - weird name but great barbeque, service, sides, and desserts

If you are looking for somewhere new to try, I suggest heading over to The Cube at 1520 Central Ave.  The outside of the building is a bit sparse and gives no hint to the amazing food inside.

The Cube has ample parking, a plus for any restaurant along Central.  Two of my friends went for the brisket sandwiches, one with coleslaw on the side, one with coleslaw on the sandwich, another friend went for the hotdog layered with avocado and a side of fries.

As I judge all barbeque by the ribs, ordered a 1/2 rack of ribs with a side of mashed sweet potatoes ($16.91 for 1/2 ribs, side and soda).  The entree prices run from around $3.00 to $20.00.

The service was fast and friendly.  We received our meals in short order and were happily surprised.  The coleslaw was tasty with some added bits of apple, my mashed sweet potato had a hint of orange, and the french fries were perfectly crispy.

The brisket was tender, the ribs were tasty, and The Cube's barbeque sauce was wonderful - tangy with a hint of spicy heat.  I'd say it almost gives Rudy's barbeque sauce a run for it's money.  They do beat Rudy's in innovative sides and desserts (like the chocolate cookie that was served warm and had a chocolate syrup center).

Things that could have been better: I had to work hard to cut the ribs, so it would have been nice to have them precut.  And the bathrooms smelled terrible.  Luckily the bathrooms aren't near the tables, and I wouldn't even known about the smell except one of my friends let me know about it; so just avoid them.

The Cube, 1520 Central Ave, 505-243-0023.

Overall I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone.
