The Nashville club scene has lost another night club. Luau Louie’s Hula Hut, located on 2nd Ave. in the SoBro District of downtown Nashville, was padlocked by Metro Police Officers on September 23rd, 2011. Just like three other local night clubs, Graham Central Station also on 2nd Ave., Silverado’s Nashville and Out of Bounds, both located on Murfreesboro Rd in South Nashville, the Hula Hut was shut down for being a public nuisance. Metro police were called to those clubs multiple times during business hours for just about everything, fighting, drugs, riots, gun shots and robbery. What does that say about the Nashville club scene?
The Nashville club scene needs to “evolutionize” to survive the unforgiving, unrelenting and underestimated Metro Police. Metro police are cracking down on clubs that cater to a certain crowd. The young, thug, jeans and sneakers scene usually seen in the clubs that have been closed seem to cause the most trouble for metro officers and the clubs themselves. Its time for local clubs to change and the way to survive is to change your crowd.
The newest club to open is Indulge Nashville, located on the same 2nd Ave, just in between the recently closed Luau Louie’s Hula Hut and Graham Central Station. Indulge caters to a more upscale, young but classy crowd. They are 21 years or older except for on their college night. Indulge opened in the location of one more club that was closed earlier this year, Fuel. Fuel just like Luau Louie’s, Silverado’s and Out of Bounds, it was a young, hip hop, trendy crowd.
Mai Nashville and Karma Night Club are two clubs that have mature and socially inept crowds. Very rarely do they have trouble and police involvement. Are these the type of clubs that will maintain the Nashville club scene? It is obvious clubs like Luau Louie’s, Silverado’s, Out of Bounds, Graham Central Station and Fuel are not the model one should follow if they decide to open a night club in Nashville. Change your crowd to make it in the Nashville club scene.
Just as this article was being finished, a news report stated Luau Louie’s Hula Hut would reopen under different operating procedures. Drink specials would end at 11pm and most importantly no one under the age of 21 would be admitted into the club.
