The cross and the movies

Dr. Michael Youssef, Senior Pastor, Church of the Apostles, located in Atlanta recently preached a sermon on the offense of the cross. He mentioned how some churches have removed the cross altogether so as not to offend anyone. But he added that the cross is offensive. Paul wrote about that in one of his books, as well.
“The preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.” I Corinthians 1:18 (KJV)
“Alone, Yet Not Alone,” sung by Joni Erickson Tada was recently nominated for an Oscar for best original song, but the nomination was rescinded. Though not officially stated, Tada believes that the low budget, limited release film, which is scheduled to be released June 13th, did not meet the standards for the Oscar Nomination. Perhaps it was because of its size and advertising budget or could it be that it was a faith based song?
Mrs. Tada appeared on Fox News to discuss the Oscar nomination and ultimate withdrawal with host, Mike Huckabee. Since the nomination and rescinding, it has received a notable amount of hits on YouTube.
There are other remarkable Christian movies coming soon to theaters, as well; Son of God to open on February 28th and God’s Not Dead, on March 21st. Heaven is for Real, is scheduled to be released next year.
God’s Not Dead, in theaters on March 21st, is a feature film that revolves around the lives of several individuals who are challenged and up against a world that believes God doesn’t exist. It is complete with an appearance by the Newsboys.
Heaven is for Read; a Little Boy’s Astounding story of his trip to heaven and back is being made into a movie.
Perhaps Hollywood is getting the message that Christians do want good, well-made faith and family friendly movies. What Christians can do to continue “speaking up,” is to go the movies on opening weekend in support of these faith based movies. While the cross is offensive to some, the faith of Christians hangs on the cross and the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ.
