The Critics Choice Awards 2013 redeem Affleck and rewards 'Silver Linings' (Photos)

Continuing the awards show blitz, 18th Annual Critics Choice Movie Awards 2013 aired on January 10 on the CW at 8 p.m. The event was put on by the Broadcast Critics Film Association and held at Barker Hanger in Santa Monica, California.

The event was a welcome reprieve for Ben Affleck who is coming off the heels of an Oscar snub in the best director category for his film, Argo. The film took home two Critics Choice Awards including Best Picture and Best Director for Affleck. Argo originally received 7 Critics Choice Award nominations. As Affleck took the stage amongst a standing ovation, he was quick to acknowledge the elephant in the room.

“I would like to thank the Academy,” said Affleck. “I’m kidding. I’m kidding. This is the one that counts.”

Lincoln also had a great night. They topped the Critics Choice nominees with an unprecedented 13 nominations but they only took home 3 of those awards. Daniel Day-Lewis took home best actor prize and Lincoln received technical merits for best adapted screenplay and best score. Silver Linings Playbook received 10 nominations and walked with 4 awards including best actor/actress in a comedy for Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence, best ensemble cast and best comedy.

Also 9-year-old Quvenzhane Wallis took home an award for best young actress for her role in Beasts of the Southern Wild. The bright little star flashed a mega-white smile while wearing a purple dress and holding her award.
