It was bad enough that Chris Lee, aka the “Craig’s List Congressman” was looking to cheat on his wife by trolling Craig’s List for women to date.
Now we learn that Lee was looking to cheat on his wife specifically with transgender women.
Many people thought it was odd that Congressman Lee resigned mere hours after Gawker reported that he was trolling Craig’s List. There wasn’t even any evidence that he’d actually hooked up with anyone yet.
So far all Lee had done was respond to ad placed by an Yesha Callahan, an African-American woman from Maryland, and exchange several e-mails with her, one of which included a shirtless picture of himself.
Based on the information Lee provided about himself, Yesha did some background checking, and found that Lee had lied to her about his age, occupation, and marital status. Once Lee knew his identity had been revealed, his e-mail exchange with Yesha came to an abrupt halt. Since most cheating politicians rarely give up their position without a fight, Lee’s immediate apology and rapid resignation raised a great deal of speculation.
It turns out there was more to the story, as indicated below.
Chris Lee’s Search for Transgender Women
Gawker recently reported that two weeks after they broke the story about Lee and his Craig’s List escapade, they were contacted by two different transgender women who stated that their personal experiences with Congressman Lee’s search for transgender women, or cross dressers.
One included a copy of a January Craig’s List ad placed by Lee, which reads as follows:
Sexy Classy guy for passable TS/CD - m4t- 39 (Cap Hill)
Date: 2011-01-14, 8:55PM ESTNew to area. Very fit classy, successful guy. 39, 6ft 190lbs, blond/blue. smooth hard body. Looking for a sexy ts/cd that i can spoil. I promise not to disappoint.
Now we know why the “Craig’s List Congressman” beat such a hasty retreat from the spotlight. Lee may have thought that a rapid resignation would head off a major scandal at the pass, and save him from further embarassment.
He obviously did not want it known that he was what some people call a “Tranny-chaser.”
The first transgender woman who contacted Gawker in the wake of their original story about Lee, described herself as a pre-op transgender woman from Arlington, Virginia, who replied to Lee’s ad (see above) which appeared in the "casual encounters" section of Craigslist in mid-January.
The woman, who is also Black, said she and Lee corresponded with each other several times by email, and Lee he told her he'd dated a transsexual woman while attending college in California.
It must have been a positive experience for Lee if he was looking to relive this experience again.

After several more e-mail exchanges with Lee, the woman told Lee in an email on January 21 that she knew who he really was. That was the end of their e-mail exchange, because Lee never replied.
The other woman who contacted Gawker identified herself as atransvestite who lives and works in Washington, D.C. Her correspondence included a shirtless photo, supposedly of Lee (the face was obscured) taken in a different setting.
An online background check by Gawker revealed that the second woman was a prostitute with an online escort service, which she confirmed. She told Gawker that Lee, (or a man using Lee's email address) had responded to a "Trans for Men" ad she'd posted on Craigslist.
What is a Transgender Woman and Why Would a Man Date One?
Congressman Chris Lee’s search for a transgender woman to date raises several questions.
Just what exactly is a transgender woman? And why would a man want to date one?
Are transgender women and cross dressers one and the same?
Are men who date transgender women considered bi-sexual or gay?
For the answers to these questions , I spoke with a social worker affiliated with an agency that deals with transgender women on a daily basis.
A transgender or transsexual woman is a man who self-identifies as a woman and actually perceives herself to be a female. Some take hormone treatments, undergo electrolysis, have breast implants, and subject themselves to a variety of surgeries ( sexual reassignment surgery) to have their male sex organs removed.
Surprisingly, many men who specifically seek out transgender women to date, say that they are
actually more feminine than genetic women. They expend a great deal of time and effort into looking and acting as feminine as possible.
Another reason given by men who prefer transgender women is that since they used to be men, it’s easier for them to understand the innermost feelings of another man. They say transgender women combine the physical attributes of a woman, with the insight of a man.
Cross dressers are men who enjoy wearing women’s clothing. Most do not self-identify as women, and have no desire to undergo hormone treatments or sexual reassignment.
A preference for dating transgender women does not mean that a man is gay. In general, most men who date transsexuals do not define themselves as gay. Gay men are not interested in dating women. They are interested in men – not men who look like and self- identify as women.
Exactly what former Congressman Chis Lee’s motives were for specifically seeking out transgender women to date, we may never know – unless he decides to tell us himself.
