Turn out the lights Conservatives your party is totally over if Sarah Palin joking about her husband Todd getting a gun for Christmas while she got the rack is the highlight of your annual get together that just ended yesterday. It is hard to be respectful of a collection of people whose comments are as moronic as this years collection of Right Wing loons.
Just some of the examples of how Conservative intellectual is an oxymoron were the arguments that climate change is myth because Obama was cold at his inauguration. Andrea Lafferty of the Traditonal Families Coalition compared Homosexuality to drunk driving as a supposed rational response to Sen. Rob Portman stating recently that he had changed his views on marriage equality after his son came out of the closet.
If that isn't enough you can also depend on Michelle Bachman to provide a new level of incoherent insanity to the mix. This years offering was a speech on caring where she alleged we would have the cure for Azlheimers Disease, Cancer, and Diabetes if it weren't for government regulation and taxation. Then there was Obamacare as the Hunger Games or Obama is going to take away your guns and the public schools are Liberal Indoctrination Camps. Big Pharma should have been passing anti-psychotic medication out at the door as an ad for doing away with Obamacare so they could have 300% profits. Its passage limits them to only 250% profits which is the real reason for wanting it repealed, darn old government regulations anyway.
If this is the Conservative plan for moving our nation forward then I have to agree with Larry Klayman on his Right Stuff post on Joseph Farrah's World Net Daily when he called it the Conservative Political Talk and No Action conference. I agree wholeheartedly with his assessment of corruption in Washington and while he finds the Republican Party to be moribund and worthless I think since the Citizen's United decision you could assess both politcal party's as pretty much worthless.
This nation is failing, not because of Liberalism that destroyed itself on the sum of its contradictions back in the 1960's, but because of the very policies pursued vehemently by Conservatives since Ronald Reagan's election. We've had thirty years of America can't have Big Ideas only small narrow minded ones promoting non-stop war and greed as the only human values of worth in life and it has nearly bankrupted the world economy and heightened inequality and injustice almost everywhere you look, while making a mockery of the spiritual values we claim we believe in.
Thirty years of hypocritical values and more people than ever are rejecting religion because it has become the antithesis of spirituality. Hate is not a moral value and never has been.
Thirty years of advancing the idea that selfishness is a character virtue and our nation is more fragmented and more impoverished morally, spiritually, and economically than at any time in my lifetime not to mention that we are at more peril for the loss of our democratic impulses and institutions than at any time since our founding. What is really frightening is that these anti-humanitarian ideals have so permeated our society that it is a Democratic Party president who is eviscerating the Bill of Rights not some Right Wing zealot.
With Dr. Martin Luther King, before his assassination in 1968, we all tried to see the mountain top of human idealism and over the last thirty years we have glimpsed the depths of human selfishness, greed, depravity and corruption of the human spirit. It is time this nation went back to reaching for seemingly unreachable stars and all CPAC offered was more of the same insanity and absurdity that has afflicted us. Theirs is not some grand vision of our nation it is the nightmare on Elm Street or should I say Main street.
