The Counter’s customizable burgers offer a huge variety; patties (including beef, turkey, and veggie), cheeses (gruyére and feta are a step up from the typical American), sauces (think apricot and spicy sour cream for starters), toppings (so much more than lettuce and tomato!), and even bun options (English muffin, anyone?) are enough to leave any customer feeling indecisive. Luckily, the Counter has created a few burgers that are stand by sure fire winners, like the Old School. And if you’re looking for more variety, check out the monthly burger special. (Last month it was a seared Ahi tuna burger with carrots and a ginger dressing, and before that a lamb burger with feta, red onions, and tzatziki.) In short, this is not your average burger joint, and that’s exactly what keeps diners coming back.

While each Counter location is a little bit different, one thing that is consistent is the modern and industrial space with specially designed skateboards lining the aluminum-paneled walls. (If you find one that you really love, they’re for sale too!) You’d think with so many gourmet toppings on the menu, the Counter might get a little bit of attitude to go with their fancy burgers, but instead a refreshingly mellow and welcoming atmosphere prevails.

The Counter in Studio City has both indoor and outdoor seating, as well as a bar if you’re just in for a quick bite, or want to pair a great brew with your burger. Grab a table outside to watch the sidewalk traffic, and settle in for some great apps: fried pickle chips with apricot dipping sauce are an unlikely, but unforgettable combination, and what burger meal would be complete without some fries? Check out the sweet potato fries or the chili cheese fries. For dessert, order whatever the shake of the month is (past specials have included churro, pumpkin, and eggnog) to round out a perfectly modern take on the classic burger meal.
