Sesame Street is a classic show, with characters that have helped expand the learning capabilities of not only children, but for their parents as well when they were children. With bright, vibrant pictures, children will be able to count the items in the pictures while reading along. This timeless book, published in 1980, is just as relevant today as it was over twenty years ago!
In the story, The Count Counts a Party, by Judy Freudberg and Tony Geiss, the Count is upset because he has run out of items to count. He has counted everything from "dogs and cats, frogs and bats, plants and rocks, pants and socks". He went through the entire alphabet thinking of all of the items he has counted. With the letter A, he has counted ants as well as aardvarks. As he continued through the alphabet, and came across the letter P, he realized that he has not counted parties. Parties!
Excited, the Count decided to have a party for all of his friends on Sesame Street. At this party, he would have numerous things to count. As he begins to clean for the party, he starts to count the broom sweeps. He decided on twenty party guests, including himself. He counts out twenty plates, twenty cups, and twenty balloons. He counted twenty apples, and twenty peaches. When the guests arrived, the band played the Transylvania Polka twenty times. Everyone had a good time at the party. And most importantly, the Count had new items to count! "Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah!!!"
March 7, 2012 is World Read Aloud Day! It is an event to promote literacy. Participating in World Read Aloud Day is a great way to get involved! Just as the Count planned a party to find new items to count, you can plan a party with your child to read books. Plan a party with all of your favorite books and favorite friends!
